Who will you help?
The Latvian Movement for Independent Living is a non-governmental organization that brings together people with disabilities and their families, social workers, service providers, and people who value an inclusive society. They provide social services to children and adults with severe developmental and psychosocial disabilities.
There is a catastrophic lack of housing services (group houses, group apartments) in Latvia for people with very severe developmental disabilities. This shortcoming is now being addressed by families who unselfishly care for their adult children. However, there comes a time when parents can no longer do so.
The right to live in a society is not an extra - it is a right that everyone has.
A group house is a housing service that provides an opportunity for people with severe developmental disabilities to live a full life in society. Each inhabitant of a group home receives as much support as they need.
